Creative Christmas: Australian Christmas Table

By Emma Hawkins.

Choosing your theme and setting your table for Christmas is one of the best ways to show and explore your creative side. There are so many options and nothing is ever wrong (in my opinion) when it comes to Christmas. Whether it is quirky, formal or casual, if you are hosting, you hold the cards and you can choose to decorate the table in whatever theme makes you happy and spreads your Christmas cheer.

For this Christmas Table,  I have gone with an Australiana theme. This look was created with the hero being the amazing native garland floral centrepiece. which the wonderful ladies from Peony and Weasel created for me. You can easily create this for yourself by using Australian native plants such as eucalyptus leaves, gum nuts and gum leaves (to name a few). This theme is extremely affordable as most people have access to Australian natives in their own backyards.

To create your own garland you will need:

Wire Clippers

Scissors

Greenery / floral Filler

Floral Wire

Trim the stems and mock up the base of how you want the garland to look on a long table. Then, starting at one end, grab a bundle of greenery and begin wrapping the floral wire around the stems, layering one bundle after another. Continue layering greenery and wrap the floral securely until the desired length is reached.

To add some extra Christmas cheer and to modernise our centrepiece I placed gold glitter Christmas Ball Balls throughout the greenery and inserted some geometric tea light candle holders (all from Kmart) onto the table. For the name tags, I simply wrote each guests name with a gold pen onto a gum leaf and placed to the side of the serving bowl. This is so simple and such an easy way to carry the Australian theme throughout the table. I used this trestle table to show you that you can have fun with your seating and table for Christmas. If it’s a fabulous day why not go outside and all sit on the ground with pillows and rugs in a picnic style like we have created? Alternatively, this look also works inside on any type of table (I personally prefer the raw timber as it created a rustic look). We hope you have enjoyed this project from our Creative Christmas series. Now, all you need to finish this table is a fabulous selection of
