Hot Cross Glitter Buns

By Kirsten McKechnie

It’s nearly Easter! It has completely snuck up on me this year that’s for sure. Between planning for a new tiny family member and renovating our kitchen the days have just disappeared. By this time last year I had made two batches of wonderful fragrant hot cross buns already and this year I don’t even have an oven installed yet. Life gets like this though so for those of you who don’t have much time but still want to throw together something glamorous I have just the Easter project for you! You could give these as little gifts or do as I plan to and use them as place settings on the table. You could absolutely make the hot cross buns if you have time but I promise not to tell if you don’t!

You will need:
Hot Cross buns
Edible glitter from a baking shop
Knife
Skewers or toothpicks
Glitter paper or cardstock
Black pen/fineliner
Gluegun
Method:
If you have lovely fresh hot cross buns, they will hopefully be a bit tacky from the glaze on the top, It not you can brush the crosses with a simple syrup (made from equal parts sugar and water) before you get started.
1. Using the tip of your knife very carefully dab the glitter onto the cross of the bun.
2. Cut some flag shapes from your glitter cardstock and write the names of your guests on the backs.
3. Use the glue gun to fix the flags onto the toothpicks and once they are set adorn the hot cross buns!
