A little about Tess: I am a wife, a Mum of two gorgeous girls, a passionate Interior, Product and Event Stylist and the founder of Minted Interiors. I am an ex-corporate Communications Manager turned Stylist, self-confessed coffee and interior magazine addict. I have the privilege of working with some seriously talented creatives and beautiful clients every day and I’m constantly pinching myself wondering how I got so lucky. I live and breathe interiors and I’m always researching new products and trends – I find it really hard to switch off because ‘work’ never really seems like work to me because I love it so much. Striking the right balance between motherhood and running my business is by far my greatest daily challenge. Like so many Mums, my life is all about sleep deprivation and multi tasking – you’ll often find me stirring a pot on the stove while answering emails, or designing room concepts with a baby on my lap after just a few hours sleep. I wish you could pay for more sleep, although given my youngest daughter Jemima’smidnight party antics, I’m probably lucky you can’t as I’d be flat broke!! Coffee always helps and so do my incredibly supportive husband and family.
A little about Minted Interiors: Minted Interiors offers Interior, Product and Event styling services to clients from across the country (as well as a client in the UK), thanks to our e-design packages. It’s been a hectic whirlwind since launching Minted Interiors almost one year ago. We’ve had plenty of MI designs featured in design publications, grown a social media following of over 13,000 and have bookings through to October at this stage – achievements we’re very proud of! Our e-design packages offer professional styling support and advice, regardless of where you live and at a fraction of the cost of a traditional Interior Stylist, which means we’re constantly being approached by plenty of design savvy people, who are looking to create something really amazing in their homes.
I work closely (mostly via phone and email) with my clients to truly understand their vision for their space. This can cover a range of design dilemmas from updating a nursery to a toddler’s room, overhauling an out dated lounge room, providing advice on interior finishings, fixtures and styling for a new build / renovation and so on. Via our Minted Style and In-Person Packages clients are presented with a personally tailored state-of-the-art digital room concept, complete product shopping list, floor plan and styling notes to address their design dilemmas, which they can then use to bring the room to life themselves.
Alternatively clients can opt for me to project manage everything from the trades, shopping and furniture set up, to the styling of the room and finishing install details, so they can enjoy the end results without any of the hassles. They also receive one-on-one phone and email support and professional advice until they are completely thrilled with their space, regardless of which package they go for.
Additionally we offer event and product styling services and have been lucky enough to work with some incredible clients and brands such as Bramwell Designs, Archie & Evie, Sage & Clare and Colour Décor to name a few.
And a little about Tess’s style: I love designing by fusing styles – contemporary with traditional, industrial with coastal, art deco with minimalist, classic with scandinavian to name a few.
I would describe our house as contemporary-coastal in a traditional setting. It has beautiful character features like timber cladding, daido rails, antique french doors and double hung wood frame windows, which give it plenty of character and historical integrity, while the fresh white paint and our décor and furnishing choices, create a contemporary relaxed coastal vibe.
I am constantly torn between bright and neutral colour palettes and usually settle with a mixture of both. I love mixing different textiles like velvet and cotton, with natural materials like leather, rattan, marble and tin to create a relaxed, laid back and welcoming vibe.
