AT HOME with: MARGARET WHITFORD
This renovated californian bungalow in Williamstown, Melbourne is a little gem! The owners Margaret and Steven Whitford bought this property many years ago and have since completed renovating it, turning it into their dream family home that they share with their two children, Ella and Cooper. Who Loves That visited their home recently and chatted to Margaret about her home style, renovating tips and her favourite pieces in her home.
Who lives here? Myself, my husband Steve and our two children Ella (13) and Cooper(10)
What are your 3 favourite pieces in your home? My three favourite pieces are : My Jardan couch- I brought this about 15 years ago and it’s still a great style, : My butterfly clock from Space furniture and Copper pendant from Assembly Hall.
How would you describe your home style? I would describe my home style as comfy, with a mixture of both modern and character.
Where do you find your inspiration from for your home? Magazines, I have a huge collection of home magazines. I also love looking at Home blogs such as Design Files, Desire to Inspire, Sunday Collector and Who loves that …of course!
What would be your most treasured item? Family photos of course
Where are you shopping right now for your home? I am looking for new dining chairs at the moment, either from Cult (Hay Chair) or a Replica Wishbone…I can’t decide!!
Is the house in it’s original state or did you need to renovate? Have you got any renovating tips? Our Cal-Edwardian home is pretty much in its original state however we refurbished when we first brought the house, painting and sanding floors. About 5 years ago we put in a new kitchen, bathrooms and renovated our lounge room. My renovating tip would be to use builders and trades that others have used and recommended.
What is your favourite room in the house and why? The kitchen is the hub of our house and my favourite room because it’s light, bright and looks onto our backyard.
If you could purchase anything for your home, what would it be? Tufty time sofa and a Loom rug.
How do you relax? I relax by walking my dog, running laps of the footy oval and listening to music.
Do you have a signature dish? I’m sadly the worst cook- thankfully my husband enjoys cooking! Everyone seems to like my apple crumble though.
Any entertaining tips you can give us? I like to browse Food blogs to get ideas for new recipes.
Where would we find you on a typical Saturday morning? Most Saturday mornings after I’ve been for a run you will find me at a tennis court watching my children play tennis.
