TRAVEL: The Atlas Mountains, Morocco
The Atlas Mountains are spectacular and only a 2 hr drive from Marrakech, so you can easily do a day trip and enjoy many of the day walks in the area, or spend a few nights at one of the legendary Kasbah’s. We visited Richard Branson’s magical Kasbah Tamadot which has 360- degree views of the mountain scenery, peaceful courtyards, beautiful landscaped gardens and a picture perfect and delightful pool. Kasbah Tamadot also boasts very high prices, so you can opt to visit the Kasbah for lunch or just a visit if you don’t want to fork out so much money.
We took a hike with our lovely guide Rachid during which we enjoyed spectacular views and our reward at the end of the hike was a gorgeous waterfall. We also visited the local farm villages and bought some amazing authentic Moroccan oil from the local ladies. Considering how much we pay for Moroccan Oil here in Australia, it was not only a bargain, but we were directly giving back to the local community.
Overall experience: 9/10 – If you enjoy nature and hiking and want to see a different landscape of Morocco, I would highly recommend this. It was a lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech.
